"Jackie Ware was a life long Memphian, except for a brief stint living in California in the early 90s.  She graduated from Immaculate Conception and Memphis College of Art.  A well known potter for many years, Jackie managed and taught at the Memphis Potter's Guild studio on Summer Avenue until it closed.  Jackie made many trips to Horn Island with MCA and reflections of her visits were seen in her pottery with dolphins swimming around each bowl, plate, or cup.  Her trips also influenced her other work of plaster cast collages and cut-out metal "flying circus women."    She painted these and laughed about calling them "room temp glazes.''  Jackie was also the Director of Community Outreach and Saturday School at MCA for several years.  Her rheumatoid arthritis took it's tole on Jackie, but she never stopped making art in any way that she could.  This past year she was excited about her paintings, which she continued to collage with found objects.  Jackie's color, laughter, and spirit will long live in the hearts of those who knew her and she will be missed."
